Terms of Service
Last updated July 4, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of The Odyssey Companion website and your purchase of any digital product we sell. By browsing the site, joining our email list, or completing a purchase, you accept these Terms. We have written them in plain English on purpose; if anything is unclear, ask us before you buy.
Who we are
The Odyssey Companion is operated by [LEGAL_ENTITY_NAME], a legal entity registered in the Kyrgyz Republic ("we," "us," "our").
You can reach us through the About page.
The Odyssey Companion is an independent, unofficial literary guide to Homer's Odyssey. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to any film studio, production company, or distributor. The full statement of our independence is on the Disclaimer page, which forms part of these Terms.
What we sell
We sell digital products: designed PDF guides, digital editions, reading plans, maps, annotations, and related materials, chiefly the Home Pack. Delivery is digital — after purchase, a download link is sent to the email address you provide at checkout. Nothing we sell is a physical item unless a product page says so explicitly.
Payment, taxes, and the merchant of record
Purchases on this site are processed by our merchant of record, [MERCHANT_OF_RECORD_NAME — e.g., Paddle.com Market Ltd]. The merchant of record acts as the seller of record for each transaction: it processes your payment, calculates and remits applicable sales tax or VAT, issues your receipt, and executes refunds. Its own terms apply to the checkout transaction; these Terms apply to the products and to your use of this site.
Prices are shown at checkout. Taxes, where applicable, are calculated and displayed there based on your location.
Your license
When you buy a digital product, you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use it — not ownership of the underlying work.
You may: download the product to your own devices, keep it permanently, print it for your own use, and receive any free updates we issue for it.
You may not: redistribute, resell, rent, or sublicense the product; post the files or download links publicly or share them beyond your household; use the content to build a competing product or dataset; or remove copyright and attribution notices. If you want a classroom, book-club, or team license, write to us — we're reasonable.
Refunds
Every digital product carries a 14-day refund policy, no questions asked. Reply to your delivery email, or contact us through the About page, within 14 days of purchase, and you will be refunded in full to your original payment method. Refunds are executed by the merchant of record. Nothing in this section limits any statutory refund rights you hold under the consumer law of your country of residence.
Intellectual property
Homer's Odyssey is in the public domain, as is the Samuel Butler translation (1900) from which we quote. No one owns Homer — including us.
Everything original on this site and in our products, however, is protected: our guides, essays, annotations, summaries, reading plans, maps, illustrations, page design, and the selection and arrangement of the whole. © [LEGAL_ENTITY_NAME]. All rights reserved. Quoting brief passages of our work with attribution and a link is welcome; wholesale reproduction is not.
Film titles, studio names, and related trademarks referenced on this site belong to their respective owners and are used only for identification and description.
What this site is not
Our products are literary and cultural commentary — a companion to a poem. They are not medical, psychological, financial, or legal advice, and they are not a substitute for professional care of any kind.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use the site unlawfully, scrape or republish its content at scale, interfere with its operation, circumvent payment, or misrepresent any affiliation with us — or ours with anyone else.
Warranties and limitation of liability
The site and products are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties beyond those that cannot be excluded by law. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability arising out of these Terms or any product is limited to the amount you paid us for that product. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING_LAW_JURISDICTION — e.g., the Kyrgyz Republic], without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence remain unaffected by this choice of law.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Material changes affecting existing buyers will be communicated by email where the law requires it. Continued use of the site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
